About us

Who we are

The Ontario College of Family Physicians represents more than 15,000 family doctors who support Ontarians in both urban and rural communities in our province. We support our members by providing evidence-based education and professional development, promoting and recognizing leadership excellence in family medicine, and advocating for the vital role family physicians play in delivering the highest quality care to patients and families across Ontario.

At the national level

A not-for-profit and voluntary organization, the Ontario College of Family Physicians is the provincial chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). The CFPC was founded in 1954 to set standards of practice for the discipline of family medicine and to oversee family medicine residency programs in the universities across Canada. Over the years, the CFPC has remained close to these educational roots and its original mandate, which includes undergraduate and postgraduate education, along with the continuing professional development of family physicians.

The CFPC’s Maintenance of Proficiency (Mainpro®) program enables members to maintain their practice knowledge and skills in the face of an explosion of new clinical discoveries. Find out more at the College of Family Physicians of Canada’s website.
