Our President

On Sept. 25, 2020, Dr. Elizabeth Muggah of Ottawa officially became the OCFP's 63rd President and will serve in that role for a two-year term.

In her inaugural remarks, Dr. Muggah shared her views on the impact of COVID-19 on family medicine, hopes for the future, and priorities in her new role. The OCFP welcomes Dr. Muggah as President, along with the 2020-2021 Board of Directors, who will work with her over the coming year.

Dr. Liz Muggah has been practising as a family physician for 20 years and currently works at the Bruyère Family Health Team in Ottawa. She has practised comprehensive family medicine in a variety of settings in Canada and abroad.

She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Family Medicine and the Assistant Dean of Wellness for the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. She completed her medical degree at McMaster University and her Family Medicine residency at the University of Ottawa, and received her Master of Public Health at Harvard University. Dr Muggah’s research has focused on how to improve quality and equity in family medicine.

She lives in Ottawa with her husband and two teenage daughters, and when not working can be found cycling or cross-country skiing in Gatineau Park.
