Dr. Jennifer Young

November 14, 2018 - On behalf of our members, the OCFP Board and staff are delighted to welcome Dr. Jennifer Young as the organization’s 62nd president.

A family physician in Collingwood, Dr. Young provides comprehensive care in her practice, including teaching, obstetrics, hospital care and emergency medicine. She has just completed terms as chief of family medicine at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and as quality improvement lead of the Georgian Bay Family Health Team.

Dr. Young worked in the developing world for several years and spent a year practising as a family physician in the Netherlands. Within the OCFP, as part of her passion for evidence-based care she led the redevelopment of the CPD program Practising Wisely: Reducing Unnecessary Testing and Treatment. This program combines a patient-centred approach with improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the healthcare system. Dr. Young has been a tireless advocate for the Practising Wisely program in Ontario and across the country, where it is now being delivered in seven provinces.

Dr. Young has been a member of the OCFP Board of Directors since& 2011, serving as chair of the Education Committee and, over the past year, as chair of the Governance Committee. Her enthusiasm for the profession of family medicine and dedication to championing the family physician role are evident. In her new role as OCFP president, we look forward to Dr. Young’s continued leadership and guidance of the organization’s important work on behalf of our 13,500 members.

Joining Dr. Young on the executive of the OCFP’s 2018-19 Board of Directors are: Past-President Dr. Glenn Brown of Kingston, President-Elect Dr. Elizabeth Muggah of Ottawa, and Secretary-Treasurer Mr. Terry McCarthy of Hamilton.

The Ontario College of Family Physicians represents more than 13,500 family physicians across the province. We support our members by providing evidence-based education and professional development, promoting and recognizing leadership excellence in family medicine, and advocating for the vital role family physicians play in delivering the highest quality care to patients and families across Ontario.
