The Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (CRISM) developed the first Canadian guideline for managing opioid use disorders. The guideline presents optimal strategies for the treatment of opioid addiction and recommends opioid agonist treatment with buprenorphine-naloxone as the preferred first-line treatment.

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) in partnership with Alberta Health Services has created a series of videos that look to improve understanding on: 1) A youth-centred approach for treatment; 2) How to assess youth with opioid use disorder; 3) Opioid agonist treatment (OAT) and different treatment options; and 4) Recovery-oriented practice. The three-part plain language educational video series covers common questions about working with youth who experience harms from opioids.
