Primary care is an important foundation of the health system and there has been significant work to support quality improvement initiatives. During consultations that took place from September 2014 to May 2015, the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) and Health Quality Ontario (HQO) heard from family physicians and interdisciplinary health-care providers across all practice models about how we could better support practice improvement.

A final report, Advancing Practice Improvement in Primary Care reflects the feedback received from family physicians, nurses, medical office assistants and primary care organizations and recommends ways to address identified challenges and opportunities faced in practice that need to be addressed to help advance practice improvement in primary care.

Thank you to everyone who contributed over the last year. The OCFP is pleased to have worked with HQO on this initiative and we are grateful to the advisory committee for providing their input throughout the project. They represented frontline primary care providers and were also supported by associations including the Ontario Medical Association and the Section on General and Family Practice, Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario, Association of Ontario Health Centres, Nurse Practitioners' Association of Ontario and the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario.
